My Top Ten Favourite Nail Polishes

Hey all!

Today I have something a little different - a review of my top ten favourite polishes (of all time). This was much harder than I thought - after all I do have around 500 different polishes so to cut down to 10 is asking a lot!

I had a few in mind - I really don't think I can order them though. I love all my polishes and these 10 are just the best ones.. no better than each other all equally amazing!

But the first I will show you are my basic go to colours.

The first is Modern Love by Deborah Lippmann. Until they recently started showing up in TK Maxx, I was a DL virgin. This was the first I picked up, along with 2 others - one of which is also in my top 10.

Modern Love was the first nude I ever got that suited my skin tone. I have very pinky red flesh, so many nudes just look awful on me. I also struggle to pull off purples for the same reason. This however has an almost mauve-ish undertone and is simply wonderful. When everyone went crazy raiding TKMaxx for them, I saw some terrible reviews for Modern Love but for me it really is just the best nude polish ever. It even applies well - 2 coats which for a creme polish I think is pretty good.

The second and third are both Barry M Gelly polishes. You just can't beat these - easily one of the best brands ever made for the UK. Both of my picks are blue - easily my favourite polish colour. The first is Blackberry - this was my first Barry M polish ever, and one I blogged about a couple of times almost a year ago now. I still love it, and intend on wearing it a lot this winter. Flawless application - 1 coater for me and my little nails, fantastic shiny finish, although I do always topcoat to prolong my manis a bit further. I actually realised I had no photos of it on its own, so you have the new one above  of it on its own and  one further on where I have worn it with KBShimmer Hex Appeal.

The second is Guava. I never imagined Guava as a blue colour, but there ya go! I love this shade immensely, and I am still very fond of this nail art I did using it earlier in the year. Again, a gorgeous shiny finish and in just 1 coat. Whats not to love? I miss my long nails....

A new favourite of mine is Blue Himalayan by Beauty UK. It's one of their new Gel FX range which is along the same lines as Barry M. I should let you know that I did get this as a press sample, but it has still become one of my new favourites. It is a beautiful bright cornflower blue - something that I have nothing even similar to in my collection. I have worn this alone a few times now and it wears really well and does really have that beautiful plumped gel look finish.

Now, onto the glitters. I became enamoured by glitters and polish in general when I saw a link on Facebook to a review of KBShimmer's fall line for 2012. The two that stood out to me were Quantum Leaf (below) and Jack (above). To get them at the time, I had to ask a friend across the water to purchase them for me and ship them to me as they were as easy to find as gold dust on Harlow and Co. He (the wonderful man) bought me 2 of each, and I have treasured both bottles all this time. I am almost down to 1 of each - I do wear both quite frequently and I generally wear them as they are, rather than layering. I have never found another indie quite like KBShimmer for their multi-level glitters.. they are just stunning. I have however only featured them on my blog a handful of times, so I apologise for the quality of my then newbie pictures. I hope you feel I have improved even slightly since then with these ones!

Since that time, I have fell in love with several other KBShimmers, but none so much as Hex Appeal. This just combines everything I love with a little bit of something I hate (purple) and yet comes out as one of the most beautiful polishes I own. Really cannot fault it. This is one coat over Barry M Blackberry.

This next polish was also originally sent to me as a press sample. Ellagee kindly sent me a tiny little 5ml bottle to review, which I ended up using in the space of about a week. I have since purchased a larger bottle and as you can see, I am steadily making my way through this one. You have to have a bit of multi rainbow glitter in your life - this is mine. Crazy He Calls Me was one of Ellagee's first lines - one of a number of glitter toppers (most of which I also own!) there are lots of almost equivalents out there - I suppose it depends on what calls to you - but this definitely calls to me and makes me feel unbelievably content and happy to watch it sparkling away on my nails.

Back to the Deborah Lippmanns. This was the original polish that found me diving for a shelf in TKMaxx and making me look just a little bit crazy! This is Deborah Lippmann - Across the Universe. There are a few dupes of this about now, but I still love it. When I first applied it I was massively disappointed - it takes 3 coats to get to the wonderful jelly effect that everyone loves, but even so - I love this polish and have plenty of plans for it this holiday season!

And last but not at all least - Cadillacquer We'll Meet Again. I was saddened to see this is discontinued, so I hopefully will be able to pick up a backup bottle before its all gone. The colour and whole makeup of this polish is just wonderful. A muted pink base with a holo shimmer and packed full of fine red glitter. It applies really smoothly and only needs 2 coats. It reminds me of curling up toasty warm in my favourite jumper.. except my favourite jumper is neither pink, red, or sparkly. Hmmm. Love it anyway!

What do you think of my choices? Any of your favourites in there?

Don't forget to check out everyone else's favourites!!

Pokémon NAC - Week 13 Bug

#Uninspired.

I already did Spinarak for Poison, so I wasn't really feeling this week. I also wanted something I could wear every day, so I went for an 'inspired by' look, seen as I mainly do freehand and was looking for something a little different. So I chose Ledyba as my inspiration.

I coated all my nails in 1 coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Rapid Red, then I dotted some black spots onto two of my nails and coated the other two with 1 coat of Maybelline Color Show - Rosy Rosettes. I love this polish - its one of their new Brocades range. Its lovely!

What do you think?

Swatched: Sinful Colors Green Ocean

Hello all!

I just have a simple swatch for you today, but it is a beautiful one.

I managed to get my mitts on Sinful Colors Green Ocean. A beautiful green/blue flakie polish with a handful of triangular holo shards thrown in for good luck. I think (dont quote me) that it was released around St Patricks Day this year. I havent seen it anywhere in the UK, but we were flooded with swatches of it, giveaways of it.. but I never managed to get hold of it until now. And it was only £1! Bargain! :D

So here it is over black - I truly love it and can't stop looking at my nails. I have actually used it for a base for a challenge, so keep reading over the next few days to see what I did with it!

What do you think? Were you lucky enough to pick one of these up somewhere?

ER31DC - Day 21 Inspired by a Colour (Nail Lacquer Heart or Love review)

Day 21 - Inspired by a colour time!

I was not inspired by this at all, so asked Becca from Kittys Painted Claws to suggest something, anything for me. She then delegated the choice to her other half.. who not knowing me so well.. chose PURPLE. ARGH!

My initial thoughts.. do I OWN any purple polish? So I had a little rummage about in my unorganised helmer drawers and discovered my little untried beauty from Megan at Nail Lacquer.

When she announced this was coming soon, I just had to have it. Megan was kind enough to give me one as a present, before it was released for sale. How lovely is that?

Heart or Love is a beautiful glitter topper packed full of circle glitter. Heaven. I LOVE CIRCLE GLITTER!

Not my usual colour combination - theres some purple in there, along with pink and blue.. but omg I love it so much! Here I have it layered over Sinful Colors Black on Black. Didn't want to take it off! Perfect going out / special occasion mani! Application was great, lots of glitter and the circles came out fairly easily. It levelled nicely and dried in good time. The circles laid flat to the nail with no curling. Can't fault it!

Don't forget to check out everyone else's mani's for this week!

Taras Talons - All Work and No Polish! Swatch

Hey all!

Another Taras Talons polish here - got a few more in my untried pile, but I'll break them up so I don't spoil you all at once haha!

This is a single mini (5ml) that caught my eye a few weeks back. I'm normally a bar glitter hater but its very sparse in this polish so I thought I'd give it a try. All work and no polish is a sheer grey base with a mix of black, white and pink glitters in a variety of hexes and bar glitters in black and white only. It can be built into an opaque look on its own, but I decided to layer it over Sally Hansen - Ion for quickness.

I decided to wear it as an accent as you know how much I like non-matchy nails. So I went for 2 coats of Sally Hansen - Ion on my pinky and pointer, 2 coats of Catrice - Raspberry Fields Forever on my middle finger and 1 coat of AWANP over 2 coats of Ion on my ring finger and thumb (not shown).

I really like how it looks, I love glitters, and these matte glitters are great for an every day look. I love the variety of colours and glitters in this and surprisingly like the addition of the bars. It was a beautiful formula and had a nice variety of glitters that went easily onto the nail. I did fish for the bars though as they are quite sparse, but thats how I want the polish anyway so its not an issue!

Small thank you to Becca from KPC too as these are all her polishes (bar All Work and No Polish) as I was having a polish afternoon at her house! It was her birthday last week, so I took over her presents and we had a swatch fest! Happy birthday Becca, love ya lots!

Anyway, back to the polish - what do you think?

Nail Lacquer UK - Review and Swatches

**These polishes were provided for my honest review**

Good morning all!

I'm sooooo glad to be back - I got home around half 3 yesterday and spent the remainder of my day polishing my nails. I did a whole week of naked shorties with nothing but a file and some Nail Envy for company. It did my nails the world of good but I am seriously glad to be home with my pretties!

Anyway, back onto why I'm posting - today I have 3 polishes to show you from Nail Lacquer UK - Megan (who makes these beautiful polishes!) kindly gave me three to review. The ones I have to show you today are Happy!!!, Golden Apple and Naughty or Nautical.

Quick bit of housekeeping - all polishes are shown with basecoat of OPI Matte Nail Envy and 1 coat of Seche Vite topcoat unless otherwise stated.

The first I chose to try was Happy!!!. From first glance, it is something that makes you feel happy - it is a beautiful glitter topper with a mix of bright blue, coral red, pink and lime green glitters in a variety of shapes and sizes. They range from tiny glitters and small squares to medium and large hex glitters. A really pretty mix! Also, look at the cute sticker on the bottom of all of the bottles - just makes them cuter!

As this is a neon mix, I decided to show you a couple of different looks you could go for. The first is the usual - a white base which makes the neon colours really pop. What do you think?

The second base I chose for this was Barry M - Greenberry. I think this works really well with the range of glitter colours.

The application of this was pretty good. I did have to dab a little to get some of the bigger hexes off the brush onto the nail. I didn't need to dig for any though which was great. Megan sent me the little bottles (4ml) and I was pleased with the brush quality and length as it reaches the bottom of the bottle so I won't end up having to shake and roll and fish for any polish at the bottom once I've used it a couple of times. Marvellous! Only point I do want to make - as I have quite curvy nails some of the larger hexes didn't lay completely flat, and therefore I did need an extra coat of Seche Vite to even it out.

The second polish I have for you is a beautiful shimmer polish called Golden Apple. It does really remind me of a Golden Delicious apple - its a beautiful light green with a golden yellow shimmer to it. I thought it would be quite sheer, but the formula is thicker than I thought and only needed two careful coats for full coverage. I found it quite hard to photo the true colour of this - the first shows the nice application but the second photo is much more true to its Golden Apple colour.

And last but definitely not least - Naughty or Nautical. As you will probably have noticed, this has a similar name to one of Essie's summer line polishes - but for me it sticks closer to what I would associate with Nautical - Blue and Red. The blue base is a gorgeous metallic inky blue and mixed in are small and medium glitters in red and holographic blue. The red is particularly pretty as it flashes a deep pink at certain angles. I really like this one - and as autumn is coming it'll be going into my work-appropriate stash as I love squeezing understated glitters in there! :) Here I used three coats on its own - it was much more sparkly in person - more like the bottle.

So.. there you are :) Which is your favourite? Do you own any Nail Lacquer polishes that you would recommend? Any on your wishlist? I have one more to show you which will be coming in its own post soon :)

Thank you again to Megan for letting me review some of her polishes!

ER31DC - Day 17 Glitter

Good morning!

Its yet ANOTHER 31DC mani today. Glitter! YAY for glitter!

I have pulled out one of my favourites for today - Ellagee - Beyond The Sea.

Laura originally sent me this for review, but I loved it so much I had to buy a large bottle of it. I have it here over Butter London Slapper.

What do you think? Do you like it? Would you wear it? Do you have either of these polishes? Want them?

Don't forget to check out everyone else's glitterbomb manis!
