Pokémon Nail Art Challenge - Week 9 Poison - Vileplume

Yaay we're upto week 9 - where has the time gone?

This week is Poison - there's not a massive choice of Poison pokémon, but as I was stuck between two for Grass, Poison was the perfect week to do Vileplume <3 . I love Vileplume, its one of my favourite pokémon from the original 151. I think its really cute :) it never has amazing story lines in the animé - infact i HATE the Jessibel episode where James returns home. If she was a real person, I might actually lamp her. Can't believe she has a Vileplume! And the way she says it... ACK!

Anyway onto the mani. The polishes I used are:

Base - Catrice - The Monkey Gets Funky
Vileplume - Loréal Color Riche - 607 Rue Montmartre, Essie - Forever Yummy, Essie - Case Study, Ciaté - Big Yellow Taxi, Zoya - Raven for outline.
Vileplume's stun spore (across the other nails) - Ciaté - Ladylike Luxe

Pokémon Nail Art Challenge - Week 8 Ground - Sandshrew

Ta da! Was going to do Sandslash but a bit hard for me so I just spent the afternoon painting Sandshrew but mimicing Sandslash.

'Saayndslaaysh' haha :)



Sandshrew was made using a mix of Fearne - Lemon Drizzle and Barielle - Rusted Vintage Boots and then Fearne again mixed with Zoya - Purity and then Zoya - Raven for outlines.

Pokémon Nail Art Challenge - Week 7 Electric

I chose Magnemite!

I was really uninspired for this week, I thought about doing Raichu but decided against it.

I'm not a fan of magnemite in the games at all - i never have a fire pokémon handy when they appear!

Also, i did these yesterday and as I was rushing out for our anniversary dinner, i forgot to take pictures. Then this morning i woke up to a broken nail! Argh!

So here are my slightly worn magmemites :)

Look, hes totally staring at my chipped edge! Damn magnemite, still dont like him!

Pokémon Nail Art Challenge - Week 6 Normal - Snorlax

Hi everyone!

Week 6 already for the Pokémon challenge - can't believe it!

This week is normal pokémon, so I chose Snorlax because he's epic in the game and I always remember him from the animé for eating boat loads of grapefruit before Ash catches him, and then for a funny episode where he is entered into a Pokémon wrestling match to win a years supply of food which he ends up eating in around 2 minutes :)

I am not 100% happy with these, so you may see a second mani at some point - it may be Snorlax again, it may not. I had this amazing idea in my head with a pale blue and yellow gradiented background but I am a 100% fail at gradients and it didn't work out.

So this version is inspired by the unexpected weather (for me anyway as I dont often watch news or weather forecasts!) that we have at the moment. The sky is thick and full with snow and its falling quite merrily at the moment - enough to send all fair weather drivers into their usual annoying panic!

Barry M - Watermelon for Snorlax's Body
Fearne - Lemon Drizzle mixed with Essie - Muchi Muchi for Snorlax Face, Chest and Feet
Zoya Purity and Raven for Claws, Outline and Z's


Also, my thumb does not bend for the camera. I really envy how people take shots of all 5 nails - I took a million photos and had severe hand ache by the time I managed to get a few semi decent photos!

Pokémon Challenge - Week 5 Flying - Butterfree

It had to be done after Caterpie last week! Butterfree!

I am a little unhappy with these nails - I might redo them and post some new photos. I have been painting and swatching all night to get ahead with my other challenge, so I could keep these on for a few days.I think with me now being quite tired, theyre not as good as they could be! I don't have a list of colours for these as I had to mix a few to get closer to the right shades - especially for Butterfree's body.

Anyway - these nails are an ode to by far the saddest (but also happiest) episode of Pokémon that I have ever watched!After Ash's Metapod evolves into Butterfree, he has many amazing adventures, including a near trade for a Raticate. But Ash loves his Butterfree so much that he asks to trade back.

On his travels not very long after, Ash sees lots of people in balloons releasing their Butterfree over the sea. Ash finds out that Pokémon trainers around the world have travelled to release their Butterfree to find a mate and go scatter their eggs across the sea. Ash releases his Butterfree and sends him into the crowd to find a mate, but Butterfree returns disappointed that he can't find anyone to be his mate. Then another lady releases her Butterfree, who instantly catches Ash's Butterfree's attention, as she is pink.

Ash's Butterfree tries to woo her but she's having none of it.. so he flies off upset into the forest while Ash runs off to find him.

When Ash finds him, he gives him a little yellow neck scarf to set him apart from all the other Butterfree and tells Butterfree that Pink Butterfree will realise how special he is. During this time however, Team Rocket have hatched a plan to catch all the other Butterfree. When Ash and co return, they've all been captured inside a metal net. Butterfree is determined to free all the other Butterfree and save his love, and so he bashes the net over and over until he is so tired, he can only manage one more attack. He tackles the net one more time and manages to break the net and free all his friends.

Pink Butterfree has watched his heroics and has fallen in love with him, and agrees to travel over the ocean to lay their eggs together.

The sad bit is at the end when Ash has to say goodbye to his Butterfree and he cries as he watches them fly away. I cry every time! It always makes me think that if Pokémon were real, I'd never be able to release one and say goodbye - I cry when I have to leave Milo (my son aka cat) for holidays!

Pokémon Nail Art Challenge - Week 4 - Bug

I had this week planned for a long time :)Caterpie has a wonderful storyline in the Pokémon anime. Caterpie is one of Ash's first pokémon that he catches (and is the first that evolves).When Ash first catches Caterpie, Misty is terrified of it and tries to avoid it - Caterpie is really upset and talks with Pikachu about it one night. He looks up into the sky and tells Pikachu that his dream is to grow up to be beautiful and to be able to fly across the sky. So today's nails are an ode to one of my favourite episodes - Caterpie's Wish (i don't think it's called that, but thats the best part of the episode - so I think it should be!)

 

Colours used were: Zoya - Storm for background, Sally Hansen - Grass Slipper for Caterpie's body, Revlon and Nails Inc for rest of caterpie, Models Own Pro - Jack's Black for Caterpie's eye and Barry M - White for the moon he's staring up at.

Pokémon Challenge - Week 3 - Water

I am a massive fan of the animé - watched it all through my childhood - so the majority of my nails will have a storyline attached. Today I went for Squirtle nails - I did these at Becca's house as we've had a nail painting afternoon - so you will see her awesome water attempt today too :)

So, Ash meets his Squirtle when he encounters the Squirtle Squad - a group of pokemon abandoned by their owners. They steal food, graffiti and generally cause havoc around the town.

Ash ends up showing the leader Squirtle how strong his pokémon are and that he cares and would never abandon a pokemon and that pokémon and their trainers want to do GOOD things.. And so Squirtle and his gang become fire fighters and save the town.

When Ash leaves the village, the squirtle leader decides he wants to go with him, so removes his glasses and runs to jump into Ash's arms <3 

So here are my nails - the full Squirtle Squad <3 they are a bit messier than I would like but I am pleased with the overall result!

Gotta Catch Em All - Week 2 - Fire Pokémon

So the Nail Art continues.. here is my attempt at Week 2 - Charmander!

I expected Charmander to be a favourite because he's a starter pokémon, but I love all the starter pokémon for all the games. I never EVER picked Charmander as my starter in game though. I always went for Bulbasaur :)

The reason I love Charmander so much is for his storyline in the animé. If you watched Pokémon as well as played it, you will remember that Ash comes across Charmander in the woods and tries to catch him, but Charmander won't let him because he is waiting for his owner to return.

 Charmander belonged to a horrible owner who abandoned him in the rain - he said Charmander was weak and stupid and so told Charmander to wait on the rock for him to come back. Charmander, being a loyal pokémon, waited through a storm for him and his tail fire almost went out. You see him curled on the rock in the storm holding a leaf over his head. Ash then rescued him and Charmander then chose to stay with Ash when his old owner decided to come back and get him. It was the first episode where I got emotional but definitely not the last! (Worst was definitely where Ash had to say goodbye to Butterfree!)

So here are my nails as an ode to the emotional Charmander episode!

Racho's Nail Love: Bulbasaur

Everyone at school loved my Pokéball nails so much that I was excited to start Week 1 when I got home!

My favourite pokémon are the starter pokémon for each generation, so of course I had to choose Bulbasaur for my Grass nails.

Hope you like my effort - one nail was enough - I tried to add some vines / leaves onto the other nails but i kept messing them up so I stuck with the two nail decoration :)

Rachos Nail Love: Pokeballs (Pokemon Nail Art Challenge)

So i found this AMAZING Pokemon Nail Art Challenge by The Blahg and Adventures of The Nail Friends. Time to multi-embrace my inner nerd and my inner polish lover! Excited! Already got my nails planned in my head for each week! Doubt they'll look the same in real life hahaha! If you fancy getting involved, check out the Facebook group.

First quick challenge was Pokéball nails! Mine are a bit messy, but they look okay from far away!

You can see on here that when I topcoated, the black smudged :( sad times!
